PHP variables not working, PHP Apache WinXp

I have installed apache 2.0.44 and php 4.3.1 on my windows XP machine, everything appears to be working, the apache page comes up when you connect to http://localhost/ and when I go to http://localhost/test.php which is a file containing the line <? phpinfo() ?> it displays the php stuff properly yet when I try to run some simple code it doesn't seem to pass variables. I'm fairly sure the code should work, I took it right off a cd I got with one of my textbooks. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

My experiences with Apache 2.x have all been bad ones. I've had a lot of success with 1.3 though. I'd suggest using that...

Default for register_globals is off in Apache 2. Either turn it on or use the new arrays - $GET, $POST, $SESSION, $REQUEST, ...

How do you set register_globals to on? I know that is probably a dumb question but this is my first attempt at a web server.

The register_globals has nothing to do with Apache, if you had 1.3 or 2.0 they would still be off, because that is the default in PHP since 4.2. Look in your php.ini file for setting register_globals on, but a better solution would be to use the variable arrays suggested by ultraslacker.

Thanks for the help everyone. I have it working now, and I will try to use the array variables for my new code
