gd is testing my nerves...

I love php, but when it comes to annoying crap like this i get angry...

Debugging code is a regular activity, but I have never had so much trouble with a script.

I get these error messages when trying to upload, getimagesize(), then edit (using GD2).

Warning: open_basedir restriction in effect. File is in wrong directory in /web/sites/353/mattrude/www.rudeonline.com/shop/admin/dem_product_add_3.php on line 53

Warning: getimagesize: Unable to open '/tmp/php1iWAZy' for reading. in /web/sites/353/mattrude/www.rudeonline.com/shop/admin/dem_product_add_3.php on line 53

My host says i must use CGI mode if i want to upload and i did that before upload of the script. Now I am getting problems.

Please help, i'm stuck.

PS. It worked fine when running the latest PHP build alongside with apache and GD2 on my own webserver!!

That is probably because php is running in "safe mode".
Just use move_uploaded_file() to move the file and then open it from wherever you moved it to -

// copy to this directory
$dir='./uploads/';

// copy the file to the server
if (isset($submit)) {

if (!is_uploaded_file ($userfile)) {
	echo '<b>$userfile_name</b> could not be copied !!';
	}

// check whether it has been uploaded
if (is_uploaded_file ($userfile)) {
	move_uploaded_file($userfile,$dir.$userfile_name) ;
	}

}
// now do your image manipulation here
