I'm trying to deal with catching users who attempt to navigate away from a page without saving form information. In my hunt for a solution over the weekend, I came across the cancelable event onBeforeUnload which is perfect for what I wanted.
Problem: mozilla/netscape has no clue what that is. In fact IE is the only browser that supports it. I've looked online, but no one seems to know a work around - one site even stated that there was no way around it, so I'm prepared to be disappointed.
I just have to think this is something many have tried to deal with before, and I was wondering what you decided to do about it. I realize I could iterate over the links object and add an event handler to every link on the page, but that seems kludgey to me, and wouldn't catch all the events that onBeforeUnload does. Does anyone have a better idea? Something that would atleast get me relatively close to what I'm looking for? Or did you just not worry about holding the user's hand when they decide to ignore the large "Save" button at the bottom of the form 😉
Gonna head to the bookstore and see if i come across something...
Thanks in advance for any ideas 🙂
