PHP Problem

😕 I don't know what sort of problem this is... but I will explain to you and maybe you can help?

First of i'm running Windows XP Professional.

Problem: I have not used PHP before and haver tried many different tutorials to installing PHP anfd none have worked. The PHP scripts comes up "The page cannot be displayed" or the page is just totally blank. It even happens on Apache. I have changed the "cgi.force_redirect" to 0 and still no progress has been made.

If you can help me i'd really really appreciate it!

and installed it on my XP Prof box, and everything worked without any setup.

You may want to turn off IIS if you are going to install this...

Hoe do i turn off IIS?

In Windows 2000 there is a management console that allows you to stop it, there should be something similar in XP. Also in the system tray you get an icon called PWS, this is another interface for IIS which allows you to stop it, the button is quite obvious.

Sorry if I seem a bit vague but I avoid IIS after finding the all powerful Apache!

If you are definate you won't use it you could always uninstall it completely (make sure you backup any websites that you have done and that you won't need ASP support as I don't think you can get ASP for Apache (god knows why you would want to anyway).

Anyway hope you get it up and running, PHP is easy and a great web-scripting language.

Thanx i downloaded the file... i'm getting an error saying:

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, @ and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

At what point are you getting this error? I mean did the install go ok? Internal Server Error could be almost anything...

Personally I setup apache and MySql as a service.. Just click the links they provide under ths START menu....

That way you can start and stop them from the Control Pannel ->Administrative Tools -> Services screen

IIS stands for Internet Information Services. I think in order to get PHP working (after installation) all you need to do is turn on IIS and define your webroot.
Like so:
Start Menu: Settings: Control panel: Administrative Functions: IIS:

Windows XP Pro should have IIS installed. If it hasn't you have the Home edition which means you need an upgrade. I can't remember exactly how to turn it on but if you look through Windows Help menu it is pretty straightforward.

I am running Win Xp Professional too.

I recommend you use PHPtriad!! It installs Apache web server, PHP4, Perl, and CGI all at once, and it's automatic, you have to do nothing! 🙂

You can get is from <a href="http://sourceforge.net">Sourceforge</a> . Just search to it by putting PHPtriad in search engine. 🙂

phpTriad is kinda crap and is by www.sokkit.com now, the best installer for win32 i have found is from www.foxserv.net
