different directory / different php.ini?

so, learning more about php as i love to do, i now prefer my local server to have the global variables turned off, for all the wonderful reasons that i've learned right here.

however, one of my clients keeps their variables turned on and they don't care to change at this time.

so, if i throw all their projects into one directory, can i somehow declare that directory to have globals turned on and keep the rest of my site with globals off?

thanks, i finally got back to this subject.

so, in the manual:

"You can also use the environment variable PHPRC for an additional path to search for a php.ini file"

sorry to have to ask, but how do i do this?

so, i guess what i'm asking is how do i set the PHPRC environment variable? is this something i do on each page? i've been looking it up and it seems to be an apache variable, but i'm still lost on how to set it for a certain directory

any suggestions?
