I have no problem with changing the numbers in an autoincrement field if you decided from the beginning that's how that table would work (for instance, a nightly process that clears a table and reinserts all the data would be a good choice for setting the auto-increment value back to 1)
It's just that the way he worded his question, it was obvious he wanted the sequence to be pretty, not for some functional reason. If you don't have a good reason for changing an auto-inc then don't.
However, it was rather impolite to call csn a moron when he was basically right, if a bit short.
You could have referred to him as brusque, rude, short (in response length, not in status) or non-responsive, but a moron wasn't the right thing.
Let's face it, you were both trying to help the guy asking the question, and that's why we're all here. There's just no reason we can't be civil about it.
