PHP mySQL sudden problem!

I have a PHP site connected to mySQL - was working fine - I move that site to a remote location, fix the username and PW so that I can connect to the mySQL box here.

I connect fine - I get logged in - it's not a username/pw/host problem but now I get this message:

Warning: mysql_fetch_row(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/user/public_html/fi2010/login.php on line 6

Here is my code:

$db =	mysql_connect("localhost:5678","myUsername","myPassword");
 mysql_select_db("ike2",$db);
 $result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM userTest WHERE username = '$username'",$db);
 				 while ($myrow = mysql_fetch_row($result))
  			 {
				 $validateun = $myrow[1]; 
				 $passwordHash = $myrow[2];
				 $name = $myrow[3];
				 $email = $myrow[5];
				 $dtcgroupid = $myrow[10];	
				 $extranetApproved = $myrow[19];		
				 $downloadApproved = $myrow[20];		 
				 }

Any idea why I'm suddenly getting that error??

I know the coding works, because it was fine until I moved it to a non-local server - but I also know it's found the db and logged me in, because it tells me if the login fails. How would moving it to a non-local server cause coding that was working now to not work...any ideas?

Same.....I wonder, it's letting me log in - but doing it remotely, do I have to do something different to connect to the DB?

I notice that if I put a bad DB it doesnt fire back an error - just the same about the mysql_fetch_row - i dont know if it does that before going for the DB or what - but it never gets that far.

I can put a bad UN/PW in it and it fires it back as wrong - so i know I'm getting that far...

have you created a new MySQL database on the remote server?

Created a new mySQL database? What do you mean? Obviously there IS a database there if I was connecting to it locally. Otherwise, I have no idea what you mean or why I wold create a new one -- I need to connect to my existing one!

If the database is on a remote server, why are you still using "localhost" as your server address?

Sorry, guess I should have explained that. I have a port (5678) on my server forwarding to my box remotely, thus, my server thinks I'm logging in locally without security risk - I know what port to allow in.

Again, keep this in mind - my connection is working, so I know the port forward is working, because if I enter a bad username or password, it will tell me - only if I enter the correct un/pw will it allow me this far - however, I just realized that I can make NO mySQL statements, not just the one above, but all result in "supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource".

So, I can log in, but that's it - locally however, my script works fine...

Have you checked if mysql_select_db is working?

is there a way i can tell if it's connecting? I can put in the wrong DB and it still says what is mentioned above, so i dont know that its getting that far.

OK have you created a table in your database? and checked that the name is the same in your php script as in the database.

I have had this problem before, but I just can't remember what was wrong exactly!

To check, use:

mysql_connect(..) or die("Could not connect to database: " . mysql_error());

and

mysql_select_db(...) or die("Could not select database: " . mysql_error());

I am not real sure what versions, or what the exact cause is, but I error a lot when I write sloppy SQL.

Try this:

$result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM userTest WHERE username='$username'",$db);

Those are backticks.

Try that, it couldn't hurt.

Other than that, be sure your port forward does infact work, as the connection to localhost is connecting to same pc the script is running on.
