MySQL Login Problems

Ok, this would be like the last post i'll make if someone helps me and it works.. ok..
What I want to do is..

Have a login forum and a regisration forum

I have MySQL and PHP

My database name is users, table is users.. and there are only two things I want to store.. the username and the password..

I need a regisration script and login script..

The scripts I make keep not working.. so.. I don't know..

Do a quick search on google (or any search engine) for "php tutorial user authentication" and it will give loads of great tutorials.

There are loads of authentication scripts and tutorials on hotscripts. They vary from very simple to very feature rich.

You should at least try it yourself. We (I think I can speak for others on this) don't mind helping people when they struggle but most of us are commercial developers and are not here to just write scripts for free.

Sorry if this appears harsh, but the best way to learn is to have a go yourself and use the resources available to you.

heh.. its ok.. when you told me to type that thing in google, i found the hotscripts.com... but.. all the one's i try like don't work.. i've been trying to do this.. for about.. 3 weeks.. or two.. i'll try hotscripts.com again though

just paste here your error codes and so we can tell you what to do.
Sure we can give you a script ... but if you don't like those from hotscripts ... will you like ours?

alright.. i got everything working.. except.. one stupid problem.. i'm using the mail() function ok.. it send the user it's password and stuff.. so i try to register and i get a error about and SMTP.

i'm using an apache server.. i found in my php.ini file.. like the e-mail to put there.. what e-mail should i put there if i'm using an apache server??

also.. i overlooked one at hotscripts.. :rolleyes:

are you running on windows?
if yes look in the manual for mail(); cuz it's diferent. You need a MTA
if you use linux :

mail($users_email, "the subject", $message,
     "From: youemail_here@yourserver\r\n");
$message = "thank you ...";
$message .="...$user ...";

forget about mail-from in php.ini, it's not that

this is the error.. i put comglomo.hotmail.com <-- my e-mail adress as SMTP port

I don't think hotmail allows you to connect to SMTP.
Anyway the server must be a server not a address like mail.server.com not me.server.com
try to get a account on a pop3 server like hotpop.com, they'll let you use their SMTP.
the port is 25 (standard)

The Windows implementation of mail() differs in many ways from the Unix implementation. First, it doesn't use a local binary for composing messages but only operates on direct sockets which means a MTA is needed listening on a network socket (which can either on the localhost or a remote machine). Second, the custom headers like From:, Cc:, Bcc: and Date: are not interpreted by the MTA in the first place, but are parsed by PHP. PHP < 4.3 only supported the Cc: header element (and was case-sensitive). PHP >= 4.3 supports all the mentioned header elements and is no longer case-sensitive.

you need to restart apache - then it should be ok!

it appears that their SMTP server requires authentication. Do you have access to an SMTP server through your ISP? Most providers have an SMTP server you can access.

dang.. your right it does.. i have attbi.. but it's my familys.. and i don't think i want to use that..

You can use it for the SMTP server but have the from address set to your hotmail account.
