Get a "0" in email using simply contact form

Hi all,

Got a problem here that I know is SO simple to solve, but for the life of me can't see the wood for the trees (so tired!) and after so much mucking about, I thought I'd ask one of you - you will probably spot it right away and I'll find myself kicking myself 😉

Anyway, I have this very simply contact form I have done for a Brazilian friend, and it all works, except it does not grab the first 3 lines (1 static text, and 2 text fields) but instead just gives me a "0" in the email in place of them! This is the script:

...I have made sure I have the correct fields in my html, and have even stripped out all error checking etc - I am baffled as to why my email response is like so (note the "0" where two text fields would be - name & e-mail, as well as a static "this is the response" line)

if you do this

   $subject = stripslashes($subject);
    $emailtext = stripslashes($emailtext);
//debug test
echo("***" . $emailtext . "***");
//end of debug
 @mail($email, $subject, $emailtext, "From: $email");

is the text already corrupt or is it happening in the mail command?

I don't know - I tested it again with that syntax, and it goes to the thankyou page fine, then sends me the email with the same results (the 0 in place of furst 3 fields)

The above on my unix server. On my windows server, I get an error, which shows the results of the form on the following page with a header error and still that 0 in place of values. Also, I never get the email when it is processed on my windows server - this is the output on windows box, if it helps:

Well, I fixed the problem, and it wasn't so obvious after all.

For some reason, the form was falling over on $e-mail (one of the input fields) for as soon as I renamed it (just for a test, as I was out of ideas) to anything without an "-", like $email or $emailer or $emails, it worked!

Anyone know why a script would fall over on a variable that contains a "-" like in "$e-mail"? It's weird!

dashes aren't allowed in variable names. You're only allowed to use letters, numbers, or underscores, and the variable name must start with either an underscore or a letter. For more info, visit http://www.php.net/manual/en/language.variables.php
