MySQL saving problems

Hello All,

I have a message board on my site. People can post a message and others can view the message. Standard enough.

My site was active and working properly for a 14 months and then my hosting company transfered all their accounts to another company. Now I have a problem with the MySQL database saving the posts. Sometimes it works, generally it does not.

My code worked with the previous hosting company and it still works locally on the test system. The technical support at the new hosting company says that all is ok at their end. I don't think it is.

I am not getting an errors to indicate that the database saves are failing. Has anybody experienced anthing like this with php/mysql? Could they be using a different (unstable) version of MySQL?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Check register_globals.

I checked with the hosting company. They are using PHP 4.1 and register_variables are switched on. As I mentioned earlier sometimes posts to the database work, mainly they don't. Success in saving posts is unpredictable.

The availability of the database appears to be unstable. My hosting company's support are unable to help.

I changed hosting companies over this issue. However, the original hosting company emailed me with a reason why database writes were unsuccessful. I don't know if they are correct but just for completion and the benefit of anybody else who have a similar future problem here is what the original hosting company offered as the reason....

"......We have identified the root of the problem regarding the random errors posts to your site were getting. The system normally locks the IP address of a server if a high number of incorrect queries are submitted (just to protect itself from attacks). This number was way too low in your server and this has been corrected now.

If you could include the mysql_error() function in your query tracking mail application, we would be able to confirm that was the reason why the updates happened or did not randoml."
