counting numbers in mysql

hi,

i'm bussy with a website whereby people can sign up for a conference. People fill in thier name, adress and the amount of people in thier group. This is entered into a mysql database

example:
[e-mail], number in party: 4
[e-mail] , number in party: 3

I'd like to be able to display the total amount of people coming, so in this example, it would be seven. How do i go about this😕 ?

what do you want to print? the total amount or all the data?

Hi. I don't want to print it. I want to display it on a php page. For instance: if someone ads himself to the list with a party of 4, the number increases by 4 on the page. So i can keep track of the number of people who have signed up.

are you storing the data in a mysql table? if you are, then try a query like this:

$sql = "UPDATE table SET guests=guests+1 WHERE id='1'";
$result = mysql_query($sql);

i'm not storeing the result in a database. I want to display the result which comes from the query on the page.

query: SELECT SUM(partysize)as total_people FROM testdb;

everytime the php page is opened, this query has to be executed and i want to display the result (something with <?php echo $query ?> )
