Max # of mysql records

I would like to know the max number of records that anyone has implemented with php and mysql? I am looking at building a database with a potential of a million records and want to know if it would work or do I have to go to something more robust.

A million records would do fine with mysql 😉 Depending on what it contains, of course. If it is huge binaries or large amounts of text, you may experience some performance decrease. And the larger the db, the longer time for searching through it - especially with search in text.

Just remember to set the int's to enough length.

[edit]Just mentioning: never tried with so many records. I'm usually satisfied with a user or two, and a few hundred rec's 😉 [/edit]

Thanks for your reply. It is mostly text with links to external gif files so that they are not stored in the database. Also, what char. types would be the best format to store the indexes?

i'll just throw in the fact that if you have at least one varchar, the entire table is made "variable length" .. so when you make some char and some varchar, the reality is that it's all varchar.. :> (i say this just to not put a lot of thought into varchar or char (as i did) if youre going to definitely have at least one varchar...)
