Invoking dlls in PHP

I've been trying to find a way to invoke a dll via php.

I have found w32api which in version 4.2 of PHP provided dll interaction but in PHP 4.3 the api has changed and it no longer works.

Has anyone any idea of the new api of PHP 4.3

Has anyone managed to invoke dlls from PHP?

Yes i know the solution would be to install PHP 4.2 but thats just going to delay the inevitable change to 4.3 which i need to do.

I believe that you call a dll via:

dl ('name.dll');

validate this at:

http://www.php.net/dl

Sadly dl does not do all the work. This loads extensions into php like w32api.dll but that does not mean the functions within the dll are accessible.

Wonderfull functions like:
w32api_register_function()

have to be used to register the functions in the dll. Sadly this function no longer works in PHP 4.3!

I'm starting to get very frustrated with php.... my current idea is to invoke an exe on the server which will call the required dll....

Ok so i have had to give in a install PHP 4.2.

Ok the documentation for the win32api is non existent. I have found a number of functions

w32api_deftype
w32api_init_dtype
w32api_invoke_function_w32api_register_function

w32api_set_call_method

This takes two values:
DC_CALL_CDECL or DC_CALL_STD

Any ideas what either of these are. Has anyone got any good sources on the api? Any suggestions for alternative methods as this invoking dll stuff is killing the webserver and giving me a two day headache
