Quick Question: mail() limitations?

Did some digging, could not find any information about this. Hoping someone has a ready answer for me.

Concerning the function mail(to, subject, message), is there a limit to the size of message? If there is, do you know what that limitation is? I have not run across a problem -- I am just curious to know this.

Interesting... as most mail functions are triggered on a form post, would the var "post_max_size" (from php.ini) apply as a possible answer / solution?
