Mysql Help

Ok.. i have a login form on my site.. I shut my computer off at night for a little bit... i go to reload my winmysqladmin.. to load up my mysql-opt server.. winmysqladmin for some reason just sits there on my screen.. the little red light never goes to green.. and it makes my computer go really slow..
anyone know why?

winmysqladmin is less than good (sh1t).

I suggest you run mysql as a service as it is much more reliable because windows shuts down the service before closing. It stops these little problems occurring.

Windows 98..
Would you also happen to know if there is a difference between SQL coding and MySQL coding?

Unfortunately services only apply to NT/2000/XP. You will have to put up with the quirks of running 98.

As long as you make sure that mysqld-opt has been properly shutdown before you shutdown/restart your machine you shouldn't get these problems.

There is no such thing as "SQL" coding as the implementation of the SQL standards varies from one db system to the next.

Best bet is to try it and if it does not work as you expect - have a look at the manual or post on here.

how would i "properly" shutdown mysqld-opt?
i used to use Crtl+Alt+Delete.. sometimes..

You can shutdown using either "winmysqladmin" (not sure how but I'm sure you can) or by using the command line -

mysqladmin -hhost -uuser -ppass shutdown

well.. after like shutting it off two times.. thats when the problem starts

You shouldn't get problems if you shutdown mysql properly. The most common cause of problems is when tables don't get closed properly because the server isn't shutdown properly.

Win98 is not a good platform for running any form of server. It is certainly worth considering moving to 2000 or XP.

They are infinitely more stable.
