I have a mysql database and I use php to display a list of names and phone numbers. I'm creating a contact management system but I'd like to be able to click the phone number with my mouse and have it dial the number automatically.
Is this possible? I don't think it's a php thing, but I'm hoping someone has done this and can point me in the right direction...
Thank you for the help!
PHP can't do this directly. You need to find another program (non-PHP) that will do the dialing for you. Then you can use PHP to call that program when a phone number is clicked.

Ok,
Anybody know of any program that does this?
you could posiibly do it in java
Do you have a link or an example I can have a peek at?
I stink at telephony stuff.
well the you could use it with a program directly. aim has such a feature:
aim:goim?screenname=ndawg133557&message=Hey
youd put that into a link and if aim was on a message box would appear 🙂
True, however, here's what I'm looking for...
555-1234
If you clicked on that number, it would dial it through the modem or through your phone then you can talk to the person through your phone...
I tried a program a long time ago, dunno if it's still around, but anyway, i think it was called "net2phone"...
You could also research on VoIP (Voice over IP). I don't know much about this technology, but I think it's what you need.
VoIP does NOT work. I work for a communications company. VoIP is YEARS from stability. BirchTelecom is going under becuase they put faith into it. BAD BAD BAD! That is all I have to say.
