hi, i am currently working on my site, and what i am trying to achieve is where people can view thumbnails of my potrtfolio, but have to register to view the full versions.... as well as downloads in the future.

i have a php book, but for some reason i dont see how to do this in it.

so how could i create such a system where when a person is not logged in, then they cannoyt view the protected items until they register... and i would also like an email validation to register

i hope you see what i mean, i would like to try and learn how to do this myself, but i think i need much much help... could anyone tell me what i need to use in php(so i can try and read it in my book), and possibly point me to a few tuts

You need some sort of subscription area, in HTML, which will store the registered user in a database like mysql. Once registered, your users can log in onto your site, again using a HTML form. The data is posted in a PHP script that will verify user input, and grant access if passwd is correct. If it is, you can forward the user to your protected area, and use php session functions on every page, in order to protect them from user who did not authenticate.
