mkdir/chmod problems

I am creating a folder on my server and supposedly setting it's permissions when it's created to 777. I want the user to be able to upload photos etc.. The cod ei am using is

mkdir("/home/httpd/html/path/$txtOnlineID",0777);

This works fine but the chmod is set to 755 when i check it on the server... any reason why it would not set it to 777 as i expected?

what is your server? (windows, linux?) mode is ignored on windows server, but i took a look at php.net, and the mode for mkdir() is 777 by default. What happens if you don't specify a mode at all?

If that still doesn't work, maybe you'll have better luck with chmod() after you create the directory.
