Please Help With Form Validation

Is it better to validate your form via javascript or on the php server? I am doing it on the server now but am thinking about javascript. I am validating:

password1=password2
password, username, phone, email are not blank

and if possible:

is email is valid form?
is phone is format xxx-xxx-xxxx

Any suggestions in javascript how to do this? Any suggestions in php how to do the if possibles I listed?

I would suggest using PHP only because it will work the same for everybody. Javascript can change or not work entirely when changing browsers.

To check if passwords are correct:
if ($password1 == $password2) {}
Which is simple enough. To see if all blanks are filled out, use isset():
if (isset($password1)) {}

To check if the email and phone number work, you'll have to use ereg() or something similar. They can get a little bit tricky.
