Dynamic Image Creation

I am VERY new to PHP, started yesterday with a simple include() script that I found and was seeing what else it could do when I came across the dynamic images article. It seemed great because I was really against doing graphics for my site and others wanted the menu to be in a particular font...so this seemed great.

But it doesn't work. I know I'm supposed to have GD and TTF installed on the server but I really don't even know how to check that I do. I keep getting an empty gif box, and I read that gif support was removed but I tried the jpeg versions too and they didn't work either.

I'd appreciate any help you guys could throw at me. Thanks.

Okay, I learned how to get the info from a PHP info. But where would I see if GD or TTF are installed? In the modules? If they aren't , can I have my host install them or do I have to do it myself?

Run phpinfo(), and search for "gd."
If "GD Support" is "enabled," then you have GD installed. If "FreeType Linkage" is "with TTF library," then you have TTF support.
Below that are a list of available file types for editing.

If you don't have it installed, you'll have to contact your host about it, and ask them to install it.
