how to change permissions to "writeable by all"?

I am SO NEW to this it's silly!

I just uploaded phpBB to my Yahoo webhosted site and need to change permissions and other such fun stuff in order to set up the forum.

When I tried using WS_FTP Pro to change permissions, I got an error from the Yahoo server.

Here is the error (I'm assuming it's because it isn't a UNIX server? Well if it isn't, then how do I change permissions?!):

500 'SITE chmod 666 /dropitdown2003/phpBB/config.php': command not understood

I also have Dreamweaver 3.0 at home which I use for FTP'ing.

Can anyone assist me with this task? Or point me somewhere than can help me out?

Is your syntax for the command correct?
chmod("/somedir/somefile", 0777);

Ahem...yeah, I see it's with ftp now.... 😉

How do you change perms in WS_FTP? I use another prog.
Try to right click on the file and see if there's any reference to permissions.

wellll in WS_FTP yo CHMOD what you need to do is right click the file and go down to ftp funtions the click on CHMOD (UNIX) this will only work if your server is unix of course

Windows servers don't have permissions for you to set, so (I think) they are already writeable by all.

okay, so I get the following error when I try to install phpBB:

Warning: Failed opening './../db/mysql.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/include:/usr/lib/php') in /phpBB/includes/db.php on line 31

Fatal error: Cannot instantiate non-existent class: sql_db in /phpBB/includes/db.php on line 60

being a novice at this...I NEED HELP! 🙁
