newbie trying out Mysql and php for the first time

As I said in the subject I am very new at this.

I am attempting to put together a database filled with product information and specifications.

What I have is a catagory page which displays the products that have the same category ID.

For instance
Category table
catname catid
wireless keyboard 1
small keyboard 2

Product Table
Product Name catid
item1 1
item2 2

I am trying to figure out how to display 1 product in 2 or 3 different categories.

any suggestions is greatly appriciated.

You need to quite sql that does a simple join between the category and product tables

in your case it'd be something like

SELECT * from product where product_name_catid = 'your_product category_id'.

Another thing that would help you would be to read up on database design. Believe me that the mroe reading you do at the beginning the easier things will become
