i need help

im trying to use the php manual (the .html files are on my server, not the php.net site)within a php script...

echo ereg_replace ('HREF="(.*)"', "href=\"index.php?where=//1\"", $content)

it doesn't do anything when i use that,what is wrong?

i want something like

<a href="faq.installation.html#faq.installation.forceredirect">faq on cgi.force redirect</a>

to be

<a href="index.php?where=faq.installation.html#faq.installation.forceredirect">faq on cgi.force redirect</a>

Hi,

I prefer preg_replace(), but anyway:

• href in your pattern is uppercase, your example is lowercase. use eregi_replace() or preg_replace with a i modifier to match case insensitive.
• regular expressions are greedy, and due to . you might end up with one long match extending to the last doublequote. best would probably be to use [^"] instead.
• backreferences use the double backslash, not the double forward slash as far as I know.

thats because the php manual uses the capitalized href tag..well now it identifies the tag, but how do i use the data in [^"]*
to change the url href="somepage.html" to href="index.php?where=somepage.html"

well, replace the .* with it, leave the parenthesis around it as they were, and with \1 you should be able to reuse what was matched by it in your replacement argument.
