[Resolved] Redhat 8.0 problem?

I have installed a stock rh 8.0 installation, I have installed phpmyadmin, moregroupware and several other php based applications. All of which work, however, I have coppied my php application to this box and the html is displayed, but there is no hint that the sessions are working.

When the index.php page is opened a session is started and the session variables are registered. But when I log in, I just keep getting back to the login page and no variable values are written to the session file. The page is designed to provide error feedback in the event that the system cannot find a valid user name/password pair, but nothing happens. It is almost as if the php portion of my login page is not being executed.

any thoughts would be appreciated.

one line of enquiry is to check you php.ini file to confirm where your session is written on the server normally (/tmp) and check that it is world writable

My problem has been solved, it was the php configuration line dealing with the short open tag. I feel that it should have been enabled by default but it was not.

But I appreciate your reply anyway.
