Custom Shopping Cart - Need Some Direction

I've never built my own shopping cart before and I am looking for some Direction and maybe a little code help along the way. I would really appreciate your ideas, guidelines and help.

Here is what I am working with:
- I am Using MySQL Backend
- everything running on a Linux Server
- VeriSign PayFlow Pro is what's going to handle the transactions
- I have compiled PHP with the PFpro functions (Integrates Verisign & PHP)
- 128 bit SSL
- Database full of Customers Personal & Payment Data.

The shopping cart should work a little different than most. The customer won't be buying a tangible item, they will be buying adds that will be published on the site after the transaction is successfully placed. So shipping aspect of it isn't necessary.

I'm not to sure about how to integrate the SSL with the shopping cart as well as most other components of the shopping cart.

The only thing you need to do to have the connection be encrypted with SSL is have the user be at [url]https://[/url] instead of [url]http://[/url]

So just make sure whenever they are submitting data ( CC#s ) they are on an [url]https://[/url] page and are POSTing to an [url]https://[/url] page.

Anyone else have some useful tips, to get started on my Shopping cart? Things i should consider? Coding methods?

Hmm....

Seperate logic from content (PHP from HTML).
Use sessions to do all cart work; keep the items there, keep the data there, do the calculations there. When you finalize the purchase, send the info to the db or payment app, or both, although I'd wonder about keeping payment data (you mean credit card numbers) in MySQL...

Verify ALL submitted data, particularly use addslashes, striptags, etc., etc....

I think i know that much so far, thats bout the basis i do have.

I'm not to sure how to go about sturcturing the shopping cart.

Well, do you want the whole dir list 🙂 ??

A database backend that includes all products for sale, with administrative pages to add info to the db, upload a photo of the item, add/subtract categories of products, descriptions, etc., all of which are in the db.
Search-by-category and search-by-manufacturer routines, linked to the main page.
The capacity to edit the order once it is in the cart. The particular project mentioned deals with vars like quantity, color, size, etc. (clothing.......)
The ability to showcase 'special priced' items on the main page.
SSL ([url]https://[/url]) pages for inputting name/addy/ccard data, etc.

Hmm, maybe what you wanted is this:

You have a cart script. If they click a button, it shows the cart contents, or tells them they've not ordered anything yet. If they click an "add" link or button, it adds the item ordered to a cart session variable or array. If they click a 'remove item' link or button, it deletes the item (hint--- unset() is good....) In all cases, it shows the items they've selected and totals them up and displays that figure as well......
