is 'id' a mysql function value

I have a table named 'id', and it keeps doing some strange things, like it will work sometime and sometimes it won't. So, I was just wondering if 'id' was some set mysql function that I can't use?

Ive never had trouble with naming tables or colums 'id.' There might be something wrong with your code. You can paste it here.

If it were, it would give you an error when trying to create it. Which is why you can't name a descriptive field "desc" (it also means descending).

thanks no need to post the code. I renamed the table and I'm not having problems. Not sure what it was all about. I've never had problems with it before, but it was certainly conflicting with something this time. Thanks

Mordecai: unfortunately you can create tables with reserved words by putting them in backticks (which is what phpmyadmin does I think) 🙁

Really, xblue? I've never tried that. And if PHPmyAdmin does it, it must be a pretty recent addition. My version doesn't, since I always get errors making tables using reserved names.

just checked on the mysql monitor, within singlequotes an error is returned, but in backticks it passes.

I found out that it is not good to use 'desc' for a decriptive column not because I couldn't create the table, but because it existed and couldn't be queried properly 😉
