php and oci8

i read that many persons had problems with php and the Oracle db versions before 8.1.6.

I have installed Apache 1.3.27, php 4.1.2 and Oracle Enterprise Edition 8.0.5 and i'm not be able to connect with my db, all on Windows XP

I have configured exactly my php.ini, but when apache start it give me this error

unable to locate dynamic library php_oci8.dll ...

I read that i have to set my Oracle variables, to compile php --with-oci8[=DIR] options, to check if apache contains libpthread.
Unfortunately, I don't know how to do all these things.

how can i set Oracle variables?
how can i compile php --with-oci8[=DIR] options
can i solve my problems installing ORACLE 8.1.6?

Please help me because i'm going crazy!

unable to locate dynamic library php_oci8.dll

Search where is the file php_oci8.dll
Check ur php.ini and uncomment this line

;extension=php_oci8.dll

Check ur php.ini, make sure that file php_oci8.dll is in the extension_dir

; Directory in which the loadable extensions (modules) reside.
;extension_dir = ./
extension_dir = C:\Program Files\Apache Group\PHP\extensions
