Well I use Dreamweaver MX. Not only does it color-code PHP but it also colors HTML, CSS, ASP, and ColdFusion. 🙂

There is nothing constuctive in insulting the intelligence of a Newbie, especially one that might just be more intelligent than you are. How would you like it, if you were still a Newbie to PHP?

Folks, in the first place, just in case you hadn't noticed, this is a Newbie forum on a medium-sized web site.

This is not "Ask Slashdot," where there are 1,000,000 hits a day. It's not helpful to tell a Newbie, "Check Google, now go away...."

I read posts all the time about Newbies who struggled finding something, even on Google, who got infuriated and gave up, after being insulted by people like you. No, there wasn't any name-calling, but it was implied by your rude/arrogant posts. GROW UP!!!

I took your Google advice, and you know what? There are several programs labeled "Code Beautifiers," but I haven't found one yet that "Beautifies Code," that is free and allows you to download it for your own use, using the standard search.

It's obvious that you didn't do the same search.... Most of the programs listed just colorize code. (Big hairy deal and it does not solve his problem.) And no, I am not going to look at Google pages all night to find the answer.

So, no, you didn't help a new guy out, you just insulted him and didn't understand what he was asking.

Some of the posters naturally assumed that this guy just needs a colorizer. If that's true, you all neglected something FAR SIMPLER.... Assuming support is enabled, all you have to do is rename (or copy or link) your file from .php to .phps. Yes, PHP has even this built-in.

You could open it in an editor that supports colorization, such as Vim, available at http://www.vim.org/

Any complete solution should have automatic indentation, to actually reformat the file. Otherwise, it is totally worthless to download something and complicate life further.

To do this, search for the following in Google:
php beautifier indentation

So, if your are a snob, don't post in a Newbie forums. Blogs like these are for beginners and for helpful/patient people. Unfortuately, you just want to ridicule and brag. GROW UP!!!

mikehoskins, perhaps you should read that and think it through again. You should only ask for manual help (from others) after you have at least tried to find an answer for yourself. Most likely, Myriadz did do a search, but probably using different words than Mark. Does that mean you need to go off on Mark? No, no it doesn't.

No one was rude to Myriadz in the slightest, in fact, Mark and dalecosp's posts are the most useful posts in this thread.

Also, you say you took the Google advice? Then you'd notice that the first reply (sans the link to this thread) is what he was looking for? I failed to see that mentioned in your thread. Then, onto the second reply. WOW! Also exactly what he was looking for. What a surprise, eh?

Now please don't try to go off on someone just because they're giving a very valid response. You've obviously misinterpreted the responses in this thread, and had no real reason to get mad at Mark and dalecosp.

and mikehoskins, this site/forum is not a place where you Tell someone how to do something, this is a place where you Give help, not do the work for them. Even something as simple as searching for a code highlighting program. they'll never learn themselves if you tell them exactly how to do something. when i first started web design, i had NO help from other people. i didnt even know Forums existed. And that was just a few years ago. and believe me, if i can do it. anyone can, i'm not one of the "smartguys"..
