replace character

Hello,

I need to remove all ' characters from a variable.

Can anybody tell me how this is done?

I have done some research and believe it can be done with something called preg replace but am unsure on how to immplement this, does anybody know?

$variable = str_replace("-", "", $variable");

echo "$variable";

will give

sometext

without = "-"

also though if you're trying to get rid of them because it's giving you headaches with queries or what not, then addslashes($string) will add escaping characters to all "nasty" characters in a string so that your code doesnt get confused. you can then use stripslashes($string) to get rid of them again.

John, the add slashes doesny seem to take work on ' , which in the problem im having in my sql?

it should do:

  $string = "This is some text with 'akward' characters";
  echo $string;
  $string = addslashes($string);
  echo "<br>";
  echo $string;
  echo "<br>";
  echo stripslashes($string);
?>

Should output:

This is some text with 'akward' characters
This is some text with \'akward\' characters
This is some text with 'akward' characters
