select statment

hi

i have a table... in it is as follows

prodID date numBought
1 xxx 1
2 xxx 2
1 xxx 2
3 xxx 1
1 xxx 3 <-- here
3 xxx 2

etc etc

Every time an item is bought, the numBought is incremented for the product with that ID.

How can I select the last instance of a prodID in the table,e.g.
where the arrow here points to for id=1 ??

SELECT prodID, MAX(numBought)
FROM tbl
GROUP BY prodID
