can't get HTML form variables

I have a simple script with an html page with a form and the input with the name:
YourName

it gets submitted to a php script that will print out what the user enter for Your name. The php script part is:

print $YouName;

now this should work but for some reason it doesn't it just comes up blank. Is there something wrong with my PHP installition?

Hopefully this means you have register_globals off (Yipppeee!!!!)

Try using the request arrays -

$_POST['YourName']

or

$_GET['YourName']

and you should be using echo too, not print.

This may sound silly but why's everyone so pleased that registered globals is off?

Only a few weeks back I was told to turn them on by two people here. :S

I would never tell someone to turn register_globals on.

There is nothing wrong with it - it is the lazy coding that people follow that is the problem. Unless you validate all your data correctly it leads to buggy code and security vulnerabilities.

ooh, I see! Ah, well I've done a created a whole script which runs on each page which checks all the variables are correct, form inputs are correct, id's in the page url are correct etc before the user can even see the page, and if something is wrong and it's needed inside that particular page, it quits to an error page.
