How to make SELECT query ignore the last two rows in database?

I made a news script. The latest two entries are going to be manually added by me, because I will put images for them and format them differently than the rest of the headliens.

In any case, how do I make it so that the LATEST TWO news entries are NOT displayed, when using this select query?

$result = @mysql_query("SELECT ID, date_format(NewsDate, '%M %e, %Y') AS NewsDate, Subject, ShortStory FROM News ORDER BY ID DESC LIMIT 10" );

$result = @mysql_query("SELECT ID, date_format(NewsDate, '%M %e, %Y') AS NewsDate, Subject, ShortStory FROM News ORDER BY ID DESC LIMIT 2,10" );

The 2 is the number of records to offset by.

That will solve your problem but there is a deeper one. What you probably SHOULD do is make a seperate table for your added stuff and relate it to the News table through the ID. Your second table can have a column (newsID or whatever) that will relate to the News table ID.

Just sounds like bad design to me whenever you have data that isn't uniform in the same table.

Could you explain this a bit more. I'm sort of new.

I understand the new table part. And I understand using newID to link it to the original table's ID's.

But why? Why is this better? And why even do this? Are you saying put the newest two entries in the new table or something. I'm confused here.

By the way, I greatly appreciate your help in the first post. That worked exactly as I wanted it to.

Well, what are the 2 records that you are not showing your users? I just assumed that this was a different KIND of data and thats why you were skipping over it. If it is different data but relates to the news data, then it belongs in a seperate storage container. Understand?

No it's the exact same type of data. I just didn't want to display the first two because they will have images attached, and what not. And I'm very far from experienced enough to do this fully in PHP.

Anyway, I'll show you what I mean.

Notice the first two news headlines will have images, and be listed at the top (Bill Trost Interview).

The rest will just be listed under "Latest EverQuest II News Headlines," without images or anything. Just standard headlines.

So is the way I did this ok?

Yeah...that looks fine. I didn't quite understand where you were going with that but now I do. Looks fine.
