Hi,

Is using:

$REMOTE_ADDR;
// or
gethostbyaddr($REMOTE_ADDR);

...an effective way to get details you need to block someone from a guestbook?

I don't think it would be very effective... unless the visitor has a static IP. My ISP forces an IP change about every 2 hours, and the addresses arent even on the same subnet.

If they have dialup, then usually their IP will change everytime they reconnect. For me, I am always on the same subnet.

what you could do is blocking them over cookies....
if the cookie exist and is vlaid they cannot access, easy to code!
