Authorization email..... where can i get help?

i have a form but i dont have an authorization email added to it yet... for 2 reasons...

1.
i dunno how to have an email mailed to "contact email" when the form is submitted with an activation link.....

2.
i dunno how to make an activation link for a form submitted...

so im dead stuck right now... until i can find something... ima go back to looking on php.net

By form, I am assuming you mean Forum.

You can use the mail() function.. I bet you knew that. I make my authorization emails in the following manner:

I generate a random 6 digit code and put it in a MySQL field (most forms have a database.. dont create a new fieild, just use an exisiting one that is blank at the moment) then in the login sequence, then I email the code to the user. Once the user inputs that code in a script, the updates the table.

you were really sketchy on what you wanted.
Please provide more detail.

sorry i wanted to keep it simple at first, but this is a more detailed version....

I have a signup form, with the fields below....

"First Name"
"Last Name"
"Username"
"Password"
"Contact Email"
"Paypal Email"

I need an activation email sent to their contact email with an activation link so they can just click it and it echos "Account Activated, Click Here to login" then after it is activated i need a second email sent with their "User Information" username, password, ect...

I think i will also need to have something in my login script to show "User Account not activated, please check your email and activate your account" but i will ask about that later unless someone can hep me here.....

So basically i just need an activating email sent to the users contact email address to activate then a second one listing their user information....

I dunno if this will be enough info or not... if so let me know on which part i need more discription.

You are using a database, right? with each field having its own column?

yes... they have their own colums

if u have msn messenger you can add me [e-mail], i also have aol, and yahoo if you wanna give me your email ill add ya... i would give u mine for aol & yahoo but they are under my gf emails, and i dunno which email addresses she used 😉

Then I suggest you do it like this:

Create a new colum, name it Activated.

Now when your users sign up, set the colum Activated as a random generated number ($authcode = rand (100000, 999999)😉

Then create a new script, the sole purpose of this script should be to seek out the authcode (Index the Activated column) and replace the code value with "yes." Use the UPDATE query.

Email the user a link like this activationscript.php?code='$authcode'

This method works for most small - medium sites.

I am still a novice at PHP, there may be other ways, but that is how I do it.
