How to upgrade PHP4.06 => PHP4.3

Hi. I am a complete novice on PHP. I am supporting a site running RedHat 7.2 and has PHP 4.06. I want to run TUTOS (www.tutos.org) and a few other things. Mostly I would like to upgrade to PHP4.3 or later.

My questions:

Is there a simple way to upgrade using RPMS? (e.g. rpm -Uvh)?

If there is no RPM way to upgrade, can someone provide a walk-thru of the ./configure, make etc? I'm rather new to all of that stuff.

The site has an existing application, basmati, running fine with PHP and MySql 3.23.

First of all, I'd make sure that your PHP applications can run on PHP 4.3.0. There are a few things that changed since PHP 4.1.0, so the apps that you have that run fine in 4.0.6 may throw some errors on 4.3.0. So before upgrading, I'd make sure of that first...

Hi Diego25 and thanks for quick reply. Turns out that basmati doesn't like 4.1.2 of PHP and tutos just wants 4.1.* so I guess that I can just install anything from PHP 4.2 on.

This subject (step-by-step how to upgrade PHP versions) seems to come up a lot but I have not been able to find definitive instructions. One thing is clear; one cannot simply run an RPM to upgrade it.

I guess I'll just have to find an old spare machine and set up a similar environment and try different things till I figure it out!
