Calling PHP through a HTML Document??

Could somebody help me? I have a simple counter script that I am trying to utilize with my HTML Pages. I have read that some people have used an image tag to call a php script through a HTML document, but I have not had any luck with it. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks
