lets say $num_pages has a value of '3'

what i want to do is echo out
1, 2, 3

just like that

ok, $num_pages has a value of 10:
i want to echo out:

1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10

you get the idea.

i think you would do this with an array or something but i'm not entirely sure. any help is GREATLY appreciated.

No arrays, just a for statement:

for ($i=0;$i<=$num_pages;$i++) {
  echo ($i);
  if ($i != $numpages) {
    echo(", ");
  }
}

It'll loop through 0 and $num_pages. If the number is any number other than $num_pages, it prints out a comma. (As you had in your example.)
