do a process after successfully downloading a file

is there a way to do this?
For example, i open a webpage, downloaded a file. after the download, a new process will trigger, open a page saying the file was successfully downloaded. It doesn't have to open a new page, the new page will open on the download page.

I've seen this on the Windows Update site. Is there a way to do this is PHP?

The windows update site actually installs it's own little update program on your computer, which is the thing that really controls it. You can't do what you're asking in PHP, because there's no php processing on the client side. You might be able to do it using js or ActiveX, I'm not sure.

Well.. here's a slightly clumsy idea which might do the trick.

End the script with a link: "click here after the file has successfully downloaded". It's then up to the user to check he's got the file OK before proceeding.

The script activated by the link could proceed directly to whatever it is you want to do.

Or, you could upload the file back to a temp folder in the server, and check the filename/size or whatever against the original before proceeding.
