preg / ereg, and specials characters like : ô î ü etc...

Hi,

I have a problem with the regular expressions and the search for characters with 'very special' accents (like Ô / ï / û / â / etc...).
Is it possible (with an option switch ?) work like below ?
serach for a 'I', can found a 'ï' (just like i = I, with eregi)
and 'o' found 'Ô'
etc...

ex:
preg_match ("/u/i ", "line û of text");
or
eregi("u", "line û of text");

PS: in SQL, mysql makes raprochement between all these characters, it is quite practical.

Unless you really need the power of regex, str_replace() is a little bit faster.

use character classes for stuff like this, then u and û (and whatever else you add into the square brackets) should be treated equally.

preg_match ("/line [ûu] of text/i ", "line û of text");
