i'm running a script which is grabbing $HTTP_HOST and writing page view info to a dBase (i have about 100 domains running as aliases so $HTTP_HOST is how i identify the domain).

sometimes $HTTP_HOST = www.domain.com

other times $HTTP_HOST = domain.com (no www).

i want to use eregi (or something better) to chop off www. in the cases where it appears. the helps me accurately write data where it needs to go.

i have not used eregi before but i imagine this would be a relatively simple task.

anyone out there with too much spare time on their hands? care to lend your advice?

lets say you have the following

$url = "www.domain.com";

to strip off the www, use str_replace()

$url = str_replace("www", "", $url);

Now $url contains the string "domain.com"
