Hi all,
I run php on a local box - i use my isp's smtp server to allow me to send emails.
However i have recently just changed isp. Therefore i have altered the smtp setting in php.ini.
Now i am finding that if i try (for example)
mail($to,$subject,$body)
it is timing out.
My first thought was that the smtp server setting was wrong - i checked that and it's correct. I have managed to open a socket to the smtp server and also been able to telnet to the smtp server.
Here is the very strange part. I'm playing around with phpbb on this local box and i am able to send emails via that. They get sent fine.
What would suddenly cause the mail function to start behaving wierd?
I am really stumped as to what could be the problem. I do have a f/w installed but that is not the issue as it still won't work when it is taken down.
Should i be asking my isp specific questions? Has anyone got an idea how i can track what is going on?
The setup is as follows:
Windows XP Home
Apache 1.3.34
PHP 4.3.1
Any help would be brilliant
