PHP Maximum Code Size..?! HELP!

I have a large PHP script i was building, it does a full security check and logs everything into Mysql databases.

It was all good until i came writing the pages to be included in the site.

It appears that i actually made a script that is to big for php to compile.

If i add lines or take lines out it either crashes or compiles (when i say crash, it comes to a cannot find server page). Even when the lines i add/subtract are straght HTML lines that are in an include file.

e.g.

//header stuff here

include (body.inc)

//footer stuff here

//body.inc
<body>
this is line one 
this is line two 
</body>

now if i add a line to body.inc
<body>
this is line one 
this is line two 
this is line three 
</body>

the php code no longer complies.

HELP PLEASE!
is there some way i can increase the file or php compilier space or anything! 😕

I know there's a time limit for php to run. It can be manually changed but seriously anything over 30 seconds is a lot of processing...maybe overkill?

It comes straight to the page in like 1/4 of a second....

no waiting it just stops....

and i've tried changing my memory size from 8 to 32mb... didnt do anything

Hello,

I'm pretty sure it's not memory. I'm not sure how your doing it, but make the included pages actual pages in html, then include it where you want. e.g. make the main php page, then make a html page that says BODY, or whatever. Then include the body html page wherever you want it like this:

//header stuff here

include 'body.html';

//footer stuff here

i have the files as .inc files becuase they contain code in them.

e.g.

//page1.inc

so the files need to be processed by php.

If you're doing a lot of includes, make sure you're not having two pages that both include each other (or longer loops of that sort). If that happens then of course the process of including more and more files never ends and you effectively end up trying to run an infinitely long script.

One way to have PHP check this at compile/run time is to use include_once() instead of include().

On a more general level, there may be other bugs which effectively mean you're trying to do an infinite amount of computation - recursive functions that don't bottom out, for example, will overflow the call stack and cause a crash. But I don't think that mere size is what's causing you trouble - just how big is your project?

See here is the thing....

the part thats crashing is in PURE html!....

its the adding or subtracting of just plain HTML lines into the code that makes it crash....

aka

<? blabla?>
<htmlstuff>
<?blabla?>
works

<? blabla?>
<larger(about-3k of html-stuff>
<?blabla?>

crashs

with the <?blabla?> staying the same in each case

no loops nothing....

It's certainly not size that's the issue then - I've more than once processed HTML files in the 1-3MB range; and not just to include() them, either.

include('big.html');
$bar = 'Ni!';
echo $foo."\n".$bar;

and

$foo = 'Hi there!';
?>
[i]contents of big.html[/i]

$bar = 'Ni!';
echo $foo."\n".$bar;

both work as expected (where big.html is just over 2MB in size).

Can't help any further without more substantive detail. You say, for instance, that this is pure HTML, but your example (page1.inc) includes PHP.

I agree to what is being said. I actually dont event think its the HTML file..

Make sure you have closed all loops and functions etc. I had that happen once and found out that it was because i didnt have errors on and then would do the error thing instead of displaying an error.

You may wanna check your error log and make sure you have all error reporting on.

Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I have had problems in the past with my server's handling of ".inc" files so I began naming all my includes with ".txt" and I haven't had a problem since... even when php is included.

Instead of naming them .txt files. Just rename them to .incl if that's the case. But most likely it's not.

Thanks for all your help.... but nothing seems to be working....

as i said the html length determins a pass or failure.... and if its all HTML it cant be loops and stuff not ending.

I have all error's on....

and i tried renaming the files to .inc, .txt and .html/htm

i got it going last night for about 20 mins by echo'ing the entire html body.... but for some reason now it doesnt work again 😕

Im pulling my hair out over this! please some more help!

I guess the best way to tell you what my problem is, is like this

<? BIG PHP security code?>

// html page data here

<? include($page) ?>
//where $page is set in the security code, also if there is no page to display it goes to an error page

<? security footer ?>

now the contents of the file $page is pure HTML

if the html file is small (only about 500bytes) it works

if the html file is larger (only about 4k!) it crashes

....

for this reason if the small ones work the big ones should

thats why i think its a memory overload

tho the script in total is less than 200k it has to process..

Could it be that include can only be a certain size?

Definitely not; as I noted earlier, I was able to include() a 2MB HTML file without any visible effort.

If you're not using any PHP within the included file, fpassthru() might be faster; but you might as well leave it as include() because you might want PHP in there in the future, and it won't fix your problem.

I might suggest that $page doesn't contain the value you think, but if the same file in the same place succeeds when it's one size and fails when it's another, then that's not it.

There's nothing in php.ini about the maximum fliesize of an included file (and 4kB is way too small for many tasks); I can imagine a situation in which the server doesn't have permissions to read the offending file, but all else being equal, a 500kB file should load just as easily as a 500B one.

I don't know what your problem is, but it doesn't sound like PHP is to blame.
