php "decoder"?

a friend of mine told me, that he saw a piece of software, that allows you to grab the php source code of any page on the web. i told him i didnt think this was possible, but he just wouldnt give in.

so - did anybody here hear of something like that? i find it hard to believe that a program would be able to access a server and grab the code from there. plus it would be pretty concerning...

The only way would be to hack. Other than that if someone has it it html Comments.

He's right you know. Here comes the science bit:

The server which is running PHP runs the script, and all it sends to the browser is HTML. Therefore, the browser NEVER sees the PHP and therefore, there is no such thing as a plugin that can enable the browser to see the coding.

thats what i told him too - what he said was, that he DID see a software at a fare thats all new and can do that... to me this seems like a technical impossibility as well.
