getting a mac address from an IP on a local net

Im just trying to find out if there is a built in php function that can take an IP address and get the mac of a client on a local netowrk. If not a function maybe an accessible data structure? Thanks in advance!

I spent a huge amount of time on searching for the MAC, resultless 🙁

I guess, the only possib. is to exec() a program that might get the MAC itself,
but that's not the sense of the task, right?

I don't think it would be possible to determine the MAC address. PHP as a language does not provide such low level functions. Actually you might extract the MAC address form protocol headers, but this would require some binary processing which is lacking in PHP. So give it up and try with C 😃
