Web traffic stats, in php

How can I get web traffic stats delivered using php? I have seen
cgi and javascript programs but they won't run on my php server.
Any suggestions?

Do you want to read traffic logs or to store visits in a database?

I use a tracking system based on storing some data of each page displayed on a MySQL database, and I use simple queries to output the results.

Primarily pages visited, uniques, total accesses,
and day/time are the key figures that I am
interested in. I have had problems getting
MySQL started so that is another issue that
would need to be addressed as well.

I run a Mac with Server 10x so I use logs.
If there is a way to get around sql, or get it
running properly, then that would solve my problem.
