In my mysql tables, especially a much used and large table I periodically notice a large number in the phpmysql interface for the table labeled "overhead" - what does this mean?
It means it's time to optimize the table. If you remove information an optimization is suggested. Otherwise you end up with holes in the storage space for that table. Think of it like defragging a windows drive.
