session problems with IE6

i have a login using $SESSION("user")... i use session_start(); on each and every page where necessary...
i have 2-3 users who are unable to login.... --they all use IE6 on 98 or XP machines ... when a user joins i send them a default password--if they enter with this password they are presented a change password form ... the page where the password change is processed fails the isset($SESSION("user")) check and they are told they are not logged in-- so the password change doesnt happen...
right now this isnt a big deal --the number of users is low in the test run but the projected number is sommit lik 2400-3000 users and and the current % of users not able to use the page is 6% so when the project is relaesed (pretty soon) the numbers will be more like 150-200 --dont like them numbers...

any ideas....i found some bug reports at php.net about this problem but no solutions.... any ideas on a work around 😕 :mad:

I think it might be a security issue with IE6 and Cookies (aka Sessions).

Is your site running on frames? are you leaving the domain at all? Even if it's a sub-domain it could be the cause of the problem.

funny thing is i use IE6(on ME and XP) and have had no problems with the script...- why use frames when you can use .incs or functions to build pages?

i included the cache-control header fix for IE6.

so i dont know...

this is a just a note to last thread.

using frames has its place. for example lets say you have something in your header that you do not want to have to refresh all the time and when people click on links it would change the entire page correct? Maybe I am wrong I dont understand what you are trying to say with the inc files and functions. I understand you can construct pages using them but be more specific

I had the similar thing... try doing a cookie check on the landing check and if no cookies, prompt them to look at their privacy settings, and allow all from that particular site.

This is purely a client side thing with the P3P settings of IE6 I believe, and there might well be a workaround for it by providing the right settings for it - look at the W3C site - I am sure they have bits on it. Also look at the MSDN site for P3P settings...

the project is on hold for the time being, when it resumes i expect that it will be redesigned in asp with mssql (we will have a budget to get it done when the project resumes) my choice of PHP/mySQL was financially based but since i am more familiar with MS stuff i will proly do it that way... no worries
