displaying Search results

I have a search box which searches a mysql database, and displays results from the search on one page, with just two database fields, as I want them to choose the right one.

How would I go about adding another page which displays all the details from the record they want, which has been clicked on (from the search results) without having to write out a page for each?

basically display database records on a template page, which vary depending on what record was chosen.

Im sorry if this is vague,

any help at all would be appreciated

hi there barmby..

correct me if im wrong..
but here's what i think you are trying to say

let say two field that you have are first name, and age..
the search result will only display the first name..
and when you click the first name..
you can see the person's detail..
right???

if that is the case..
i guess, u can make the result display with a link on it
so you can click it... to display a full record of the person..

it's like
when you display it..
it should link to a process page,
where it will check the user's id or what ever.. that return the query to display the full detail of that person..
all in a single page..

perhaps ypu can check out a thred i post recently..
it has been answer greatly by cgraz
check it out.. maybe it will shine some lights..

I had a look at the code and it seemed to be for the actual search results? Sorry to keep on, maybe I should have posted in newbies but what I get is...

search.php
i enter BA in here and it takes me to this page...

details page <- this is a link to the details page
Name barmby
Age 22

details page <- link to details page
Name Barry
Age 30

details page
Name Bart
Age 10

and I click on name then it takes me to the deatils.php?name=barmby ect

in the details.php page I will need to select from the database I think, but Im a bit confused as to the sql statement,

could I have select * from table where name = $name? im trying to get just one record from a table, which will display

Name
Age
Address
tel

so if i click on Barmby i want all the details to show for just him.

Again any help would be much appreciated!

first of all....
let me get this straight...

trying to get some smile..

anyway, let's move in to the question..
well, IMHO, it would be gazzilion time more easier..
if you have a ID for each name..
ya know, names can be NOT unique..
for instance.. there's mike shinoda, mike myers, mike yer uncle jackson
so if there's user ID
(i recomend an auto increment one in yer MYSQL,
so that you don't have to enter it, it will automatically enter it self..)

then you can go around and change yer SQL query to

select * from table where user_id = $id

then it will only return one result.. coz there is no way..
i repeat, no way, an auto increment type of data
gonna have two same number.. just like yer license number..

ha ha yes i am a bloke! last time I checked anyway!!

i was hoping not to add that auto increment as ive already inputted loads into the test database! oh well thanks very much for the help I think i can get it to work now!

i suppose i'll have to start again!
