Problems during the compilation

Apache 1.3.27 with SSL
PHP 4.3.1
RedHat 7.3

I have a problem with the function mail()
Apache reports an error:
Fatal Error: Call to undefined function mail()

I found that if php during the configuration doesn't find sendmail, doesn't compile mail utilities.
I have already reconfigure an recompile Apache and PHP but still the same problem.

I will really apreciate your help because i can't fix it since a couple of days.

What does the (cached) meens?

I means you either didn't do a make clean/distclean before re-running configure, or you didn't delete the source directory, then just untar it again to be completely sure.

I would recommend deleting the source directory of where you're running configure, and then untar the package again and rerun config.

Is sendmail in /usr/sbin?

you are right i didn't clean before the re-configure and also i didn't remove the directory, may be thats the point.

Yes, the sendmail is in that path: /usr/sbin

I will try again from the begining.
