calling external mail prog

Does any one know of a way to spawn an external mail prog (Notes, Netscape, Outlook, etc...) so that when the user clicks on a file it opens the mail prog with the file attached. The mail prog would be on their pc.

I am not aware of a way to do this in PHP, mainly because PHP is all server-side,
This is most likely something that can be done using JavaScript.

Let me clarify,
You can send email with attatchments using PHP, however this all takes place on the server,
meaning the client's email prog never sends the email, your server does.

To open the client's email prog you need to use a mailto HTML link
but there is no way to add the attatchment this way, ie this will not work:

Like <A HREF="mailto:[e-mail]?attach:afile.txt">

This is really dirty, but may get you on the right track
